Woodrow Phoenix grew up with four sisters in Brockley, South London. He has been creating comics, animation, design and illustration for editorial, advertising and publishing since 1988, including: weekly strips, The Sumo Family, (The Independent on Sunday), Donny Digits, (the Guardian), and a quarterly strip, The Liberty Cat, (Comics Morning, Kodansha, Japan). Woodrow has illustrated several children’s books, and written and drawn That’s a Horse of a Different Colour, and Donny Digits for The DFC. With his frequent collaborator, Ian Carney, he created SugarBuzz!, an anthology comic featuring Pants Ant and Where’s it at, Sugar Kat? that were optioned for television by Walt Disney, The Cartoon Network and other companies.
He is the author of Rumble Strip, published by Myriad Editions, and Plastic Culture: How Japanese Toys Conquered the World, published by Kodansha International.
Woodrow co-edited with Rob Davis and designed/produced Nelson for Blank Slate (he wrote two chapters in it and drew one of them). He edited, wrote and designed/produced Felt Mistress: Creature Couture as well.
