Box Brown is a cartoonist, illustrator and comic publisher. His comics have been featured in Mad Magazine and his illustrations have been on Wired.com. His web and print comic Everything Dies was named a notable comic of 2011 in the ‘Best American Comics’ anthology and gained two Ignatz Awards. His comics publishing outfit, Retrofit launched in 2011 and has now put out work by over thirty artists including friends of BSB like Joe Decie and Madéleine Flores as well as others like Tom Hart and James Kochalka. He’s interested in subcultures whose views are diametrically opposed to his own.
In 2014 Box’s biography of André the Giant – ‘Andre the Giant: Life and Legend’ – was published by First Second. A graphic investigation into the legendary wrestler’s career, his larger-than-life personality and the acromegaly that he conquered to become one of the first stars in the early modern era of professional wrestling, Brown has constructed as complete a portrait of Andre the Giant as any fan could wish for.
